Fine dining and art – the World Gourmet Society and Christie’s hosted a Michelin-starred dinner that combined fine dining, wines, Japanese art and jewellery.

In the beautiful surroundings of the Christie’s South Kensington sale rooms, guests were treated to two-Michelin-starred cuisine by one of Europe’s best chefs, . With his team consisting of Christian Binder and Christoph Kümper, he created an outstanding four-course dinner with matching wines by Gut Hermannsberg, Niederhausen, Germany.

Producing innovative Michelin-starred cuisine in a saleroom kitchen cannot have been easy but Henkel and his team rose to the challenge and delivered picture-perfect and spectacularly-tasting dishes:

Burnt mackerel, pickled cucumber, couscous and oxalis

2014 Schlossböckelheimer Riesling trocken, Gut Germannsberg – Niederhausen – Nahe – Germany

Arctic char, elderflower-caper vinaigrette, cress mash and char caviar

2014 Steinterassen Riesling trocken, Gut Germannsberg – Niederhausen – Nahe – Germany

Confied pork belly, fermented fennel and roast onion bouillon

2010 Kupfergrube Riesling Großes Gewächs, Gut Hermannsberg – Niederhausen – Nahe – Germany

Coconut rice pudding, pomegranate-ginger sorbet, mango and cilantro

2013 Steinberg Riesling Spätlese, Gut Germannsberg – Niederhausen – Nahe – Germany

The second course of artic char went down particularly well with guests, and the astonishing combinationof flavours, textures and colours of the dessert left diners rolling their eyes in delight and exclaim it’s the best rice pudding they have ever eaten.

Between courses, Christie’s experts introduced guests to the Japanese Art and Jewellery sales that were commencing the following day, explaining the worksof art on offer in the upcoming auctions, an exciting opportunity to experience Christie’s art out of hours and in an exclusive and private atmosphere.
