The jury isout and this year the results are proving very fruitful for Switzerland. With a record number of Bib Gourmand winners which totalled 119 restaurants, they also recieved one new three-star restaurant, bringing the total to three, 19two star restaurants, and 13new one star venues, which totals an outstanding 95Michelin Starrestaurants.With the most Michelin stars per capita in Europe, Switzerland continues to be at the top of the league for its selection of Michelin star restaurants.
The biggest news was of course the announcement thatLe Cheval Blanc, located in the Grand Hôtel Les Trois Rois in Baseland managed by Chef Peter Knogl, became the new edition to the three-star club when it was awarded with the Guide’s highest rating. Michael Ellis, Michelin Guide International Director, commented that, “Chef Peter Knogl, at the head of the establishment since 2007, has continued to develop his cuisine, bringing it to the exceptional level of mastery and technical expertise that is the realm of the great chefs.From a classic basis, Peter Knoglhas developed a real personality that is brilliantly reflected in his cuisine. His refined, gourmet dishes have subtle aromas that offer a burst of flavour and a unique richness. A meal at Le Cheval Blanc is a unique experience, worth the trip.”
Thehighly acclaimedSchlossSchauensteinrestaurant in Fürstenau andL’Hôtel de Villein Crissier,mainained their standing in the three star category, as well as all of the 18 candidates in the two star category.
This year’s Guide also championed 13new award-winning restaurants for its one star category, an incrediblerise from last year’s 82restaurants. The new selection includedTaverne zum SchäfliandKameha Grand Zürich – Yu Niyoin Zurich,Wirtshaus zur Säge in Flüh, Mammertsberg in Freidorf, Gasthaus zur Fernsicht – Gourmet in Heiden, Löwen in Menzingen, Einstein Gourmet in St Gall, and thePanorama – Cayenne in Thun-Steffisburg, as well asLa Bottegain Geneva,Eligoin Lausanne,Montblancin Crans-Montana,Silverin Vals andThe Omniain Zermatt, in the Swiss mountains.
The 2016 MICHELIN Guide Switzerland is on sale from 8 October for 33 Swiss francs (29.95 euros in Germany and 30.80 euros in Austria). It has a total of 841 hotels and 994 restaurants covering all price and comfort categories. Among these establishments, 116 restaurants have one or more stars.
