In the glamorous enclave of Kitzbühel, set within the scenic Eichenheim Golf Course, the five-star Grand Tirolia captures the essence of Alpine elegance. Recently reimagined, this exquisite resort invites guests to unwind in style, with an impressive mix of gourmet dining, spa indulgences, and breathtaking mountain vistas, all infused with warm Tyrolean charm.
A celebration of all things Alpine, the hotel’s thoughtfully designed rooms and suites combine modern elements with traditional touches, creating cosy cocoons that capture the grandeur of the surrounding peaks. The culinary offerings are equally outstanding, with options like Gasthaus Eichenheim, where chef Manuel Satzinger crafts authentic Tyrolean dishes, and the upscale Restaurant Tirolia, featuring innovative Alpine cuisine under chef Roland Holzer’s direction. Guests can also look forward to unwinding at the Grand Alps Spa, a spacious wellness area with indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and dedicated yoga spaces.
With world-class amenities, including a modern golf driving range, conference facilities, and The Golden – Jazzclub & Bar, Grand Tirolia provides a unique experience where moments transform into cherished memories, perfect for discerning travellers. Here, every detail reflects a commitment to comfort, quality, and the unique spirit of the Tyrolean Alps.
FOUR catches up with Grand Tirolia‘s General Manager, Gerhard Bosse, to find out what else makes this Alpine jewel a must-visit this winter — or any time of the year.
Can you tell us about your journey in the hospitality industry, what inspired you to follow this path and where you studied/gained experience?
After an officer education in the German armed forces, I decided to write my own “Marching Orders” by entering the hospitality industry, where I could choose my workplace destinations. So far, I have worked in 9 different countries and completed my MBA education in Reims in parallel.
How did this lead you to become the General Manager of Grand Tirolia Kitzbühel?
I chose to run the Hotel Grand Tirolia because I witnessed the interesting development of this property for five years while working at another hotel in the area. At a certain stage, I was contacted by a headhunter, and I did not hesitate to sign the contract.
As the General Manager, what is your vision for the future of Grand Tirolia Kitzbühel?
That the Hotel Grand Tirolia will become the leading destination resort in Tyrol.
How do you maintain a high level of excellence in customer service and guest satisfaction?
We do regular training based on case studies to learn from past situations. It is very important for us to communicate and execute our culture of handling mistakes.
What leadership qualities do you believe are essential for running a world-class luxury hotel?
The vital leadership qualities are the same in all industries:
- Optimism and confidence
- Determination and endurance
- Empathy and caretaking
- Adaptability
- Team spirit
What sets Kitzbühel apart from other luxury destinations, and how does Grand Tirolia contribute to that distinction?
Kitzbühel is concentrating on five components to create the preferred place to be: outdoor activities, culinary delights, inspiring networks, the best “workation” experience in the Alps and a new level of premium offerings. As a hotel, we are setting the stage to support all these fields.
What unique experiences and amenities does Grand Tirolia offer to guests that differentiate it from other luxury hotels in the region?
Our cinema and ice rink are for sure unique, but a guided hiking tour with our colleague Detti is an experience that will blow your mind: tailor-made to your fitness level and filled with stories and information about each and every corner of her hometown.
How does the hotel cater to the specific needs and preferences of different types of travellers, from leisure to business guests?
The individual approach is key to satisfying the different types of travellers. We are prepared to set up the scene for an efficient business meeting, and we are also qualified to propose a relaxing program for a leisure guest who is seeking a time-out from the rest of the world.
Can you share any upcoming enhancements or services that guests can look forward to?
Our KitzKids Lodge with indoor and outdoor playgrounds, Atrium with a built-in 270-degree screen, Grand Alps Yoga spaces, or The Golden – Jazzclub & Bar will be exciting additions to our current attractions and services.
What role do technology and innovation play in enriching the guest experience at the hotel?
We are carefully choosing where technology can help enhance the stay and where we will provide an old-fashioned service instead to cater to our guests’ needs and expectations at a five-star hotel.
Are there any personal philosophies or principles that you apply to your management style?
I believe in transparency: Only if everybody in the team understands what we want to achieve can he/she continuously contribute without being supervised 24 hours.
How do you balance the demands of such a high-level position while ensuring a positive and engaging work environment for your team?
I come back to clear communication, which leads to transparency. If you then recognize efforts and celebrate the wins together with your team, it will add to a very good team spirit.
What is your personal favourite aspect of Kitzbühel, and how do you recommend guests experience the region?
I go — at least 8 months of the year — for a morning swim at the Schwarzsee, and I invite my guests to join me. Departure at 05:45 a.m.!
Tell us more about what guests can expect from a stay at the hotel, including any of your favourite aspects (rooms, gastronomy, spa, etc.)…
The 18-hole championship golf course, Gasthaus Eichenheim, Restaurant Tirolia, Cooper Bar & Lounge, The Golden – Jazzclub & Bar, KitzKids Lodge, cinema, natural swimming pond and ice rink during wintertime, 2000sqm Grand Alps Spa and another new Grand Family Spa, 3 dedicated yoga / meditation rooms and transfers into the world-famous ski area of KitzSki.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career?
“Things are never as they are. They are always what you make out of them!”
What do you enjoy most about your role, and why do you think you are passionate about this industry?
I think there are two aspects that made this industry the right choice for me: I like to engage and collaborate with others. That can be with the owner of the hotel or with my colleagues or a hotel guest. On the other hand, I like the diversity in the daily tasks: A hotel is like a small city, and everything has to be organized and planned.
