Designer of hand-made luxury rugs, Luke Irwin tells FOUR about his perfect 24-hour layover…

I’d wake up in…

New York

And stay at…

Crosby Street Hotel

Breakfast would be…

Poached eggs and curried lentils at the Ace but I still dream of the chicory coffee and beignets at the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans

I would wear…

A Boglioli shirt, Acne jeans, Fiorentini & Baker boots and my Guillotine jacket.

And take these travel essentials…

Passport, phone & wallet. Anything else I can buy.

I’d listen to…

The honking of horns, the babble and chatter, maybe a bit of the Heavy maybe some Beethoven.

And visit…

The Frick (there is secret hankering to have lived there – I have the same hankering for Hearst Castle but am fully aware that these are just delusions of grandeur). MoMa (where I would quite happily not live)

Have lunch at…

A Sabretts hotdog would do but maybe some fat East Coast oysters.

Buy…

That 12th Century Cambodian gold bangle I have loved for so long at De Vera.

Hang out with…

I love the anonymity of cities but I would probably spend time with my old friends Graham Head & Madeline Weinrib

Relax at…

The bar in The Mercer.

Drink…

Diet Coke

Chat with…

My wife Al and my children Otis & Violet to tell them that I would be home soon.

And wind down the evening having dinner at…

Balthazar because it is next door to the hotel and seems to be busy and buzzy 24 hours a day.
