On August 10th, Nobu Hotel San Sebastián opened its doors, welcoming guests as the fifth establishment in Spain under the banner of Nobu Hospitality, the swiftly expanding luxury lifestyle enterprise established by Robert De Niro, Nobu Matsuhisa, and Meir Teper. Collaborating alongside the Spanish hospitality conglomerate, Millenium Hospitality Real Estate SOCIMI (MHRE), Nobu Hotel San Sebastián brings the internationally acclaimed Nobu gastronomy to the city known for having the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants per unit of area.
Occupying the former Vista Eder Palace, a historic edifice on La Concha Bay that was designed by architect Francisco Urcola, this select boutique hotel presents 17 lavishly appointed guest rooms and suites. The renowned Nobu restaurant, the Nobu Terrace, with breathtaking ocean vistas and an exclusive rooftop infinity pool for hotel residents, is also part of the offerings.
The interiors, envisioned by Tomas Alía from Studio Caramba, seamlessly blend the Franco-Basque Belle Époque architectural style of the building with Nobu’s characteristic Japanese minimalism. Employing natural materials and traditional craftsmanship, Alía establishes an atmosphere of serenity and sophistication from the instant visitors arrive. The entrance and lobby area draw inspiration from Torii gates, characterized by clean, unadorned lines. A remarkable sculptural central staircase connects to guest accommodations, where neutral hues juxtapose with striking floor-to-ceiling headboards. Nobu Terrace creates a harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, engaging in a dialogue with the sea and the shoreline. Meanwhile, in the Nobu restaurant, the quintessential streamlined Nobu aesthetic highlights the culinary creations as the centerpiece.
Situated on the main level of the establishment, patrons can savor meals at the internationally acclaimed Nobu eatery. Executive Chef Yannick Lohou and Head Sushi Chef Hideaki Mizushima present signature Nobu dishes alongside specials that pay homage to locally celebrated ingredients, such as txangurro crab, sea urchins, mackerel, and cod cheeks. For breakfast, Nobu Terrace caters to hotel guests, and throughout the day, it welcomes the public to enjoy panoramic views of La Concha Bay, Nobu’s delectable bites, and meticulously crafted cocktails.
Perched along Paseo Miraconcha, the hotel offers stunning panoramas of La Concha Bay, reaching towards Santa Clara Island. It’s merely a 15-minute leisurely stroll from San Sebastián’s Old Town, known as Parte Vieja, renowned for its vibrant pintxo bars. The impressive Piene del Viento coastal sculpture is a mere 10-minute jaunt away, adjacent to the primary railway station with direct links to Madrid and Barcelona, as well as regional trains for exploring the captivating coastline of the Basque Country. San Sebastián airport is a short 20-minute drive, offering connections to London City and major Spanish cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Valencia, and Sevilla, as well as the Balearic Islands.
