Located in northern-Portugal’s wine-growing region of Lamego, on the terraced slopes of the verdant Duoro valley, this 19th-century manor house sits on a UNESCO World Heritage site overlooking the world’s oldest demarcated wine region. Earlier this year, the property unveiled its new chic Vineyard Wing which allows guests to immerse themselves further in the beauty of Portugal’s most famous wine-growing area.
The new rooms and suites range in size from 40 to 106 square meters, and feature spacious outdoor areas. Classically elegant furnishings invite guests to unwind in this sumptuous vineyard retreat where cascading views of the river and grapevines greet you at every corner. As a special touch, guests can also customize their mini bars with fine wines and produce from across the Douro region.
The project, which took one year to complete, was spearheaded by New York design firm Clodagh who created a design concept for the new wing which would complement that of the main manor house. Original materials and keepsakes have also been included as part of the new wing’s design concept, with yesteryear’s vineyard tools and wall art inspired by wooden wine cases forming part of the unique décor.
The new rooms and suites take the hotel’s total to 60. The 19-acre property also boasts 3 restaurants, 10 spa treatment rooms and both indoor and outdoor pools. There is also a dedicated wine team that curates an array of vinous activities for guests to enjoy in the magical region, such as on- and off-site wine tastings and educational experiences. Guests can further explore the surrounding valley through river cruises, grape stomping, prehistoric rock art site visits, canyoning, mountain biking, helicopter tours and tree climbing.
The new meeting and event space can accommodate up to 70 people. The meeting rooms welcome views from across the vineyards and are outfitted with the latest technology to inspire team creativity. The walls even feature ‘writable’ areas to assist in increasing the interactivity of meetings. This multi-functional area boasts a large open skylight and a full-height living wall, allowing it to be seamlessly transformed from a quiet lounge to a luxurious cinema, lecture room, reception room or even aerial yoga or meditation space.
