Damian, which opened its doors recently in Los Angeles, has been brought to life by chef Enrique Olvera and his formidable team, the culinary talents behind Cosme in Manhattan and Pujol in Mexico City – recognized among the best restaurants in the world – along with ATLA and other coveted dining concepts.
Damian has been envisioned as the “twin brother” to acclaimed Cosme. Helmed by Chef Jesús “Chuy” Cervantes, who was previously at Cosme, Damian features dishes that are rooted in Mexican culture and traditions while celebrating the best seasonal Californian produce. Inspired by the celebratory food and gatherings of Mexico, Damian’s food will adapt the culinary proposal to the spirit of the community. Chef Cervantes has crafted a menu showcasing vegetable-driven and seafood-focused dishes with highlights including homemade tortillas, striped bass ceviche, smoked clams, Tyayuda, and more.
The beverage program, led by Yana Volfson, affirms Damian’s commitment to explore local, seasonal flavours and present them in a sustainable, elegant and fun way. It will have a strong focus on agave, serving small-batch productions by artisans throughout Mexico, along with a curated wine list including a house label Dramian (Vena Cava, Guadalupe Valley). Ditroit, Damian’s backdoor taqueria, serves up variations on traditional Mexican street food while celebrating the freshest Californian ingredients.
Damian’s design is a collaboration between architect Alonso de Garay and interior designer Michaela De Bernadi. Located in a repurposed warehouse space in LA’s Arts District, Damian blends in with the architecture of the industrial neighbourhood. The décor features a mix of polished concrete, exposed brick walls, wood accents, and verdant leafy flora. Anchored by sleek modern furniture and a beautiful concrete bar, Damian evokes a warm and inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of a lush Mexican patio.
